To use your gmail as a smtp mail service you should follow these simple settings. Otherwise Google Mail service will not let you authenticate and will not let you use your mail credentials to use SMTP service.


First:

To configure Gmail as the outgoing server in Odoo 16, you need to follow these step-by-step instructions:


Step 1: Log in to your Odoo instance as an administrator.


Step 2: Go to the Settings module and select "Activate the developer mode (with assets)" 

under the "Developer Tools" section..


Step 3: Click on the "Technical" menu and select  "Email" under the "Outgoing Mail Servers" section.


Step 4: In the Outgoing Mail Servers list, click on the "Create" button to create a new outgoing mail server.


Step 5: Provide a name for the mail server, for  example, "Gmail".


Step 6: Enter the following information in the respective fields:

   - SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com

   - Connection Security: TLS (STARTTLS)

   - SMTP Port: 587


Step 7: Provide your Gmail email address in the  "User Name" field.


Step 8: Enter your Gmail account password in the  "Password" field.


Step 9: Save the changes by clicking the "Save"  button.


Step 10: After saving, you will see an option called "Test Connection". Click on it to verify the 

connection to the Gmail server.


Step 11: Odoo will attempt to establish a connection with  the Gmail server using the provided settings. If the  connection is successful, you will see a success message.


Step 12: Close the test connection window.


Step 13: Now, go to the "Users" menu and select the user for whom you want to configure the outgoing  mail server.


Step 14: Under the "Access Rights" tab of the user  form, find the "Outgoing Mail Server" field and select the "Gmail" server you created earlier.


Step 15: Save the changes by clicking the "Save" button.


Second :

To enable 2-step verification and create an App password  in Gmail, please follow these 

step-by-step instructions:


Step 1: Open your web browser and sign in to your Gmail account.


Step 2: Click on your profile picture or initial in  the top-right corner of the Gmail interface, 

then click on "Manage your Google Account" from the dropdown menu. This will open the Google Account settings  page.


Step 3: In the left-hand menu, click on "Security" to access the security settings.


Step 4: Scroll down to the "Signing in to Google" section and click on "2-Step Verification" to 

set up the 2-step verification process.


Step 5: You may be prompted to re-enter your Gmail account password for security purposes.


Step 6: Click on the "Get started" button to begin  the 2-step verification setup process.


Step 7: Follow the on-screen instructions to select the second step of verification. You can choose to receive codes via SMS, a phone call, or through  the Google Authenticator app. Select the option that suits you best and follow the prompts to complete the setup.


Step 8: Once the 2-step verification is set up, you will receive a confirmation message. You may also be prompted to confirm your phone number if you selected SMS or phone call verification.


Step 9: After enabling 2-step verification, you will need to create an app password specifically for  Odoo or any other third-party application that doesn't support the 2-step verification process.


Step 10: Scroll down to the "Signing in to Google" section again and click on "App Passwords".


Step 11: You may need to re-enter your Gmail  account password for security purposes.


Step 12: Under the "Select the app and device you want to generate the app password for the" section, choose "Mail" from the first dropdown menu and "Other (Custom name)" from the  second dropdown menu.


Step 13: Enter a custom name for the app password,  such as "Odoo", and click on the "Generate" button.


Step 14: A new app password will be generated for  Odoo. Make a note of this password as you'll need it later when  configuring the outgoing mail server in Odoo.


Step 15: Close the app password window.


Congratulations! You have successfully enabled  2-step verification and created an app password in Gmail. You can now use the app password when  configuring Gmail as the outgoing server in Odoo  or any other third-party application.
