In Odoo, Scrap and Quarantine are two distinct functions used to manage inventory. Scrap refers to REMOVING damaged or defective products from inventory, while quarantine involves holding products for inspection or further action, such as quality control or repair.
Scrapping:
Purpose: To physically remove products from inventory that are no longer usable.
Process: Create a scrap order, specify the product, quantity, source location (where the product is currently stored), and scrap location (default is a designated scrap location like "Virtual Locations/Scrap").
Impact: Inventory levels are adjusted to reflect the removal of the scrapped items.
Quarantine:
Purpose: To hold products temporarily in a designated location while they are being assessed or undergo further processes, such as quality control, repair, or waiting for instructions.
Process: Move products to a quarantine location (a separate location, not the standard scrap location) for inspection or further actions.
Impact: Inventory levels are tracked, but the products are not yet fully available for use.
Key Differences:
Feature | Scrap | Quarantine |
Purpose | Remove unusable products | Hold products for inspection |
Location | Designated scrap location | Separate quarantine location |
Impact | Decreases usable inventory | Temporarily holds products |
Action | Permanent removal | Further processing or action |
Example:
Imagine a warehouse receives a batch of products that are inspected by quality control. Some products pass inspection and are moved to the main warehouse inventory. Others are damaged or defective and are scrapped. A third group of products requires further repair or are awaiting specific instructions, so they are quarantined in a separate location until further notice.
